It’s already prom night and you’re still having trouble putting on your necktie to match your suit? There’s an easy way to do it, and fast. In this post, you’ll learn how to tie a necktie like a boss. No hassles, no stress, no worries and no help from your dad. Check out this GIF to see how cool it looks like to do it:
I know you’re tempted to make loops with your necktie right away and impress the chicks. Not so fast young Jedi. Many have tried and failed to copy this technique. Lucky you, there’s a pretty good tutorial care of Elpher. Such a good chap he is.
Now, here’s how you do it.
Hang the tie over your hand with the wide side facing you and the narrow side on the opposite.
Wrap the narrow end of the necktie around your hand. We’ll call this “Wrap 1”.
Wrap the narrow end around again. This would be “Wrap 2”.
You now have two and a half “turns” or “wraps” in total. Pinch them with your other hand and slide them off of your hand. Pretty easy so far right?
pinch the hanging ends close to the wraps with your starting hand. Here’s where the tricky stuff happens. You’re going to pass wrap 1 through wrap 2…
…then pass it back over the other two strands of the tie…
…to create a little “collar”. Once this is done, start pulling Wrap 2 upwards to tighten the knot.
The familiar four-in-hand knot (possibly small knot?) begins to form
Tighten it up, and you’re ready for the prom! It may take you a couple of tries to make the knot decently well-dressed, but you’ll get the hang of it.
If you’re still confused, try doing this with a piece of rope first, it’s often much easier to visualize the structure of the knot with a round material instead of a flat one.
